Paper and Packaging is Witnessing Wide Adoption over Plastic Packaging due to High Preference for Sustainable packaging Solutions

Paper and Packaging

Paper and packaging are two great sources for packaging materials. These two are used extensively for packaging purposes. Paper is used for the purpose of packaging many different products. The paper is generally paperboard, which is an extremely durable paper that is quite light and has excellent skin. They can be used for packaging just about anything, such as toys, food, books, soda, snack foods, clothes, and even medical devices. Packaging paper has a very long history. Paper packaging has been a renewable, non-toxic resource since ancient times. Today, the paper is utilized for packaging goods for more than three-fourth of all paper consumption. Paper is a natural product, which means that it will not harm the environment. Paper and packaging are both environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional packaging standards.

The paper-based packaging generally has a thicker paper stock and cardboard for support. In the manufacturing of paper-based packaging, a standard cardboard box is utilized along with corrugated paperboard stock which can either be loose-faced or fully corrugated. The thickness of the stock is based upon the number of products to be packed. There are many benefits to paper packaging. One benefit is that it is eco-friendly as paper-based packaging does not entail cutting down trees. It also does not involve using any petroleum products during production. Another benefit is that it has a long shelf life and can be easily reused, making it a very green material for the paper packaging industry.

The paper and cardboard packaging are manufactured in an environmentally-friendly process. Both the materials are made from renewable resources. Cardboard is made from recycled milk bottles and these bottles are melted together under high heat until they become soft and malleable. The resulting product is then formed into blocks and these blocks are further processed into thin films. These thin films are used to make paper-based packaging materials. Recently, in January 2021, Mondi plc, a U.K.-based packaging company, introduced a new sustainable paper-based packaging for a German pet food producer Interquell.
