Cassia is
an essential oil that can be found in the seeds of the red pepper Cayenne and
the bark of the white pepper Cayenne. It is used historically to thicken hair
and to scent many foods including bread, cakes, custards, pickles, meats,
beans, and wines. Cassia gum is a thickening agent used for pet foods. It is
made from dried out plant parts that have been roasted. The pet food industry
uses it to make dry dog and cat foods, powders, tablets, and stabilizers for
gelling agents, and is a good thickening agent for bones. The reason is that it is a natural food
additive that is easily absorbed by the body. It also has anti-bacterial and
antifungal properties. It is also rich in amino acids and other minerals that
improve the immune system
Cassia gum
is actually a seed from the cactus type cassia tree. There are two types namely
American and Asian. Both use different methods to grow the seeds but both grow
into the same cactus-like plants. The seeds have the same properties as
starches drying endosperm and have emulsifying properties, which means they can
bind water and make the thickening agent. Cassia Gum is available in both
gelled form and in liquid, and it's highly recommended that you use both liquid
and gelled versions when giving your dog a bath. The gel will prevent the
liquid from soaking into your dog's fur, whereas the gum will stop the liquid
from seeping in.
A
thickening stabilizer is usually added to many canned pet foods and is very
useful for preventing tartar from building up on the pet's teeth. The
stabilizer will prevent tartar from building up on the teeth because it will
"stretch" the teeth-producing bacteria out of the mouth so that they
cannot grow properly. Recently, Cassia Tora meal has been used in Mexico as an
ultimate alternative for animal feed.
